The solution at Krymska 32

After hosting a few shows in my flat at Ve Smečkach 19, the situation started to get out of hand quite fast. The owner was a paranoid Canadian, who had the building restituted back, and although he did nothing for the upkeep of the house, he was very anxious that none of his tenants was having to much fun.

He found out that there were partys with over 200 people going on there every Thursday, and after a short  legal wrangle with him,I quit the building.I relocated the project to the hip and upcoming area of Vrchovice.

The shop I chose was on Krymska street, it had a floor space of over 100 m2 and I opened it up as gallery and action space in October 2014.Klara Zahradkova produced beautiful flyers, and my friend Alexandra Karpuchina assisted me with curating. One of the special things I introduced at Kryrmska was the so called „critical dinner“,which consisted of a artists cooking a meal for a selected audience. For each dinner we would also invite one special guest, who would hold a short talk on a topic, and then all the dinner guests would engage in a discussion. The special guests ranged from the Journalist Jonathan Tell, who had just come from Damascus to the artist Paul Chaney, who had just escaped the conflict in the Donez region. In Krymska I also started a very fruitful collaboration with Louis Armand, who devised the show „talk like a alien“ for the space. This event consists of English speaking Prague based Poets and Writers presenting their work, followed by a concert or a performance. The place became a instant success, and after a few shows I had crowds of people in-front of the shop at every event. The New York Times included the solution in a article about Europes most interesting places.

The area also turned out to be more intolerant than I had first assumed, during this time we had the tiers of our van slit a few times, the shop window smashed, and of course we got nasty looks from everyone living in the building; and so after long arguments with the landlord I was forced to quit the project after 9 months.
