THE SOLUTION

PRAGUE, 2013 – 2015

The concept of “The Solution” was dreamed up in November 2013 by the artists Mark Divo, Adam Stanko, Helena Sequens and Kuba Taus. The project was originally situated in a 200 m2 first floor “Belle époque” flat in the center of Prague at Ve Smeckach 23 in a unique space squeezed between a brothel and a nonstop. In early 2015, The Solution moved to a bigger public space in Krymská 17 and gained international acclaim after being featured in The International New York Times

The program began running in Feburary 2014 as a non-for-profit interlocal center for contemporary art. Our mission has always been to create a dialogue between individual genres and make the current happenings on the art scene accessible to the wildest public. We spermed original projects in the fields of visual arts, theater and comedy as well as interdisciplinary and experimental platforms, to create a space where art is alive and artists are present, enhancing a direct exchange between international artists and the visitors, as well as between different fields and generations.

In the front of the shop at visitors encountered the inhabited sculpture designed and curated by Mark Divo. The program of Solution consisted in four dramaturgic departments. The art program presented the contemporary art scene of Zürich and Prague, holding two to three exhibitions per month in the white cube fitted with high-end video equipment. The critical dinner focuses on contemporary food, as well as experimental interdisciplinary curators and critics, often involving visual artists, art historians, or comedians. Besides the four dramaturgic departments the program of The Solution was oriented to inter-genre and educational projects which offer the public new alternatives of encounters against contemporary boredom.
