8th INTERNATIONAL DADA FESTIVAL / SOLUTIONS FOR BASEL / 2012
Connecting the local art
community has been the
Dada festivals’ goal ever
since their beginning. Over twelve years later, in 2012, they ranked as the premier show of
their kind, showcasing art
alongside rubbish with a
strong and smelly curatorial perspective.
Their tradition of excellence
across a wide range of genres offers visitors the most
untamed art that the world‘s
best galleries could never
offer. In Prague, Zürich and
Kolín, the week of the Dada
festival teems with parallel exhibitions and cultural
events, creating an exciting
environment that deepens and strengthens the rela-
tionship between artists,
curators and collectors,
without having to involve
any greedy gallerists.
The program began running in Feburary 2014 as a non-for-profit interlocal center for contemporary art. Our mission has always been to create a dialogue between individual genres and make the current happenings on the art scene accessible to the wildest public. We spermed original projects in the fields of visual arts, theater and comedy as well as interdisciplinary and experimental platforms, to create a space where art is alive and artists are present, enhancing a direct exchange between international artists and the visitors, as well as between different fields and generations.
In the front of the shop at visitors encountered the inhabited sculpture designed and curated by Mark Divo. The program of Solution consisted in four dramaturgic departments. The art program presented the contemporary art scene of Zürich and Prague, holding two to three exhibitions per month in the white cube fitted with high-end video equipment. The critical dinner focuses on contemporary food, as well as experimental interdisciplinary curators and critics, often involving visual artists, art historians, or comedians. Besides the four dramaturgic departments the program of The Solution was oriented to inter-genre and educational projects which offer the public new alternatives of encounters against contemporary boredom.
